Braiding Food Systems Project

  • This collaborative initiative between Red Rock Indian Band, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek, and the University of Guelph is funded by OMAFA and the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance. The three-year project focuses on re-localizing seed systems and strengthening food sovereignty in Northern Ontario.
  • Key highlights from Year 1:
    • Garden stewards were hired and raised beds constructed
    • Food was grown, harvested, and seeds saved
    • Community-driven toolkits were developed for growing and seed saving
    • Ongoing collaboration with Understanding Our Food Systems staff supports engagement
